DIY tutorial on how to create a napkin ring out of wash tape and how to use Scotch's double sided sticky tape for your holiday table

Happy Friday! Wow....It is almost Christmas! I know in my house we already have our tree up and half of the house is ready for Christmas. We have been listening to Christmas songs and watching holiday movies...This is really a special time of the year. The past couple of Christmases I have been setting our formal dining table in preparation for a holiday feast. This year, I really wanted all of the holiday decor to be cohesive, so I decided to create a family friendly Christmas table setting using Scotch® Create and Scotch® Expressions Tapes products. The theme for my Christmas decor is Vintage meets "prepster-glam" so when decorating my dining table I was inspired to create Santa's belt buckle napkin ring to add a bit of flair to the table. This tablescape is the one of the more whimsical seasonal decor settings that I have come up with thanks to Scotch® Create and Scotch® Expressions Tapes products.

While thinking about different ways to "glam" up my Christmas table setting, I was inspired by Santa's belt buckle. I really wanted to incorporate some type of tape aspect to it (so I do not have to paint it) and decided that washi tape from Scotch® Expressions Tapes products would work best. They had a variety of colors and patterns to choose from that would add that special touch to my table and can be used year-a-round. I decided to go with the Scotch® Expressions black washi tape and metallic red tape to create Santa's belt buckle.

Materials:

Toilet Paper/Gift Wrapper/ Paper Towel Roll
Scotch® Expressions Tapes products -washi Tape in desired colors/patterns
Costume jewelry
Scissors
Hot glue gun

1. Gather supplies--for the base of my project I used a wrapping paper cardboard roll
2. Cut cardboard roll to desired size
3. Using the black washi tape, wrap tape along the edge of the side, leaving enough tape off of the roll so that you can bend it over
4. The tape that is not attached to the roll, with your scissors go around it and cut little slices into it, this will make it easier to fold over smoothly
5. Bend tape over, so it looks like it is outlining the inside and outside of the napkin ring base
6. Repeat steps 3-5 on opposite side of napkin ring base
7. With the red washi tape, cut to desired size and wrap around base covering the exposed cardboard
8. Since my napkin ring is pretty thick, I had to repeat step 7
9. Hot glue costume jewelry to the the napkin ring

This is how the napkin ring looks once you place the napkin inside it. From an aerial view it is quite stunning and it did not even take much work!

The metallic red Scotch® Expressions washi tape adds that extra pop to the monochromatic plate setting. It gives off the perfect amount of flair and compliments my table arrangement nicely...and it is a bit "whimsy." Scotch® Expressions Tapes products are extremely versatile and fun to use. I love how easy it was to create something using Scotch® Expressions Tapes products ---this is literally the easiest DIY that I have done to date and just by using this I can see the possibilities of creating other projects with  Scotch® Expressions Tapes products.

I also used Scotch® Create double sided tape. I knew I wanted to add a fun element to the table so I decided to whip out some red shiny wrapping paper and create a temporary table runner. Yes, you read that right...TEMPORARY. As a mother to young kids, I know the importance of keeping things tacked down so that no one is pulling on it or curling it up. Since I was working with wrapping paper, I knew I had to somehow adhere the paper to the table so that the runner would not curl up or so that it would not get torn by my children.

Prior to me taping the temporary table runner, I laid out the wrapping paper and cut it to size. You can use patterned paper, plain paper...whatever fits your home decor. Fortunately my paper was the right size so I did not need to cut it, but if yours is not, just cut the paper to desired size and in proportion to table.

Once your paper is cut and in place, tape the edges and center using Scotch® Create double sided tape. Smooth out the paper to make sure that tape adheres properly.

Flat and straight...no curling, no fingers picking at it, the runner is perfect. No matter the size of the project, Scotch® Create line is there to help! I did not have to worry about folding over regular tape to try and make it stick and getting it stuck to the paper and tearing...Nope, none of that. Instead I was able to easily tear a piece of Scotch® Create double sided tape take the backing off and lay it right where I wanted it go. This alone was victory!

Scotch® Create Line and the Scotch® Expressions Line can both be found at Walmart in the crafting/scrapbooking aisle or Office/school supply aisle. I hope my post serves as a form of inspiration and that you are inspired to create the unexpected using simple craft objects and supplies from Scotch® .
