Thriftscore Thursday 87-Halloween Edition
October 29, 2015
Happy Thursday! I have joined forces with the amazing girls from Thrift Score Thursday, Brynne from the Gathered Home, Cassie from Primitive and Proper, Trisha from Black and White Obsession, and Corinna from Designer at Home. This Thrift Score Thursday will be a little different instead of me sharing my favorite thrift score finds from the #thriftscorethursday fans, I will be sharing some of my Halloween costumes and decor that have thrifted components. So get ready to get your spook on! I hope that this will inspire and encourage you to share your Halloween thrifted finds on instagram using the #thriftscorethursday hashtag for a chance to be featured NEXT WEEK on Thrift Score Thursday....Guys, this will be a BIG feature with a handful of guest hosts!
I dropped the ball this year with our family costume...I purchased everything and failed to put it all together in time for Halloween so my kids have the opportunity to rock their second costume to every single Halloween festivity we go to. Yep, I am that mom. Anyways, my baby girl really wanted to be a witch. I mean...she has been practicing her witches laugh on the daily; and I really did not want to spend a lot of money on her outfit, so I went through my second-hand thrift stash, possible Halloween costume bin and came up with this last minute solution.
I had to share this picture, she is so cute and this is her so-called "spooky" face! She was giving me a range of facial expressions...so cute.
The dresses are both thrifted. The red one is her size but since she is so petite it comes to the ground,. I am the only mom I know that uses BIG puffy church dresses as costume. Hahaha! The black dress is a woman's sheer blouse that ties in the back with lots of black knitted dots. It is very detailed and beautiful. I saw this at the thrift store and had to buy it. I knew from first sight that I would use this shirt for my kids Halloween costume...one of these days.
Believe it or not, one of my FAVORITE places to buy fabric is the thrift store. The faux feathers in my girls costume (throwback) was all thrifted. I still have fabric from this batch to use for future costumes. The black shirt that my daughter is wearing as her body for her bird costume was purchased at the thrift store. Normally...well 99.9% of the time I know that I am going to "experiment" on piece of clothing I normally buy my supplies at that thrift store. Looking at these pictures makes me feel super guilty for not creating a 100% homemade costume this year...I will have to step up my game next year.
Last year my kids wanted be Disney's Elsa and Sofia, so we had to compromise and I gave up my dream of being whatever I wanted us to be that year. The theme we went with was Disney princesses and prince with the exception that I can be the evil step mom inspired by Once Upon a Time. I shared my Once Upon a Time Regina inspired costume last week and believe it or not it only cost me 99cents. I only purchased the cape. I made the feathered part and the crown. The dress I already owned...I LOVE this costume!
Again, all the fabric used to on Elsa costume was thrifted some of it was even picked up at a "swap-and-shop"---I will talk about that on a later date (it is like a free thrift store). The shirt for the prince costume was purchased at the thrift store, everything else I already had.
I know I shared this Macabre tablescape a couple weeks ago, but I could not help myself since everything but the skeleton hands were either purchased at a thrift store or at a swap-and-shop.
Honestly, the BEST place to get ready for Halloween and to let your creativity go wild is the Thrift store. I love LOVE love Halloween and I am so happy that I got the opportunity to share my Halloween "thrifted" finds with you. If you love Halloween or would love to share your thrifted Halloween inspired costume or home decor with us, be sure to tag your picture via instagram with the hashtag #thriftscorethursday...I know I will be and I hope to see your thrifted Halloween.
