Fall Tablescape with DIY Floral Plate Chargers
August 26, 2015
Happy Wednesday!
I teamed up with a group of fellow bloggers this past month for the Create and Share challenge. This month's theme was to create a Fall table setting and to attach a tutorial to it. Guys, let me say, I was pumped about this one. I love Fall, it is my favorite season and prior to accepting this challenge I already had a plethora of ideas in my head of what I wanted to do. So it was only right for me to tag team with them.
Today, I plan on debuting a snippet of my tablescape, there were so many pictures that I wanted to share and I did not want my post to be too lengthy. So my main focus today will be on the tutorial I have prepared for you.
Aren't those floral chargers something? Remember when I shared with some of my favorite floral fabrics? I was inspired by one of those fabrics, this one. I really REALLY wanted that fabric, but I could not justify me spending that type of money on something that I was going to cut up and experiment with.
Materials:
Plate Chargers: I had some extra chargers that I had purchased from Michael's a couple of years ago, so I thought I would experiment on those. To save money, try looking in the clearance section after holidays or even when the season changes. Michael's usually clearance them down to 80% off OR you can try the thrift store.
Wrapping Paper: I did not know where I was going to find floral wrapping paper that resembled my inspiration fabric. Honestly, I did not know where....it was mind boggling just thinking about it, then one day (last week) I walked into Michaels and I was checking out there dollar section and lo and behold, it was starring me in the face! I grabbed it (there were only 2 left, so I grabbed both).
Modge Podge: Any brand will do.
Scissors
Paint brush or Foam brush: I have a designated modge podge brush that I use....yeah, and sometimes I paint with it. Haha!
*A piece of cardboard
Cost of this project:
This project cost me approximately $1. I purchased 2 rolls of floral wrapping paper from the dollar section at Michaels (Since it was part of their Spring line, it was marked down. Originally, it was $1.50), but I only used LESS THAN one roll.
This project took approximately 2 hours to complete due to cutting, gluing, and drying time.
Steps
First clean off your plates of any glitter, dust, residue or any sort. Then cut paper to size leaving a a few inches around the rim of the plate. Remember this project will wrinkle your paper and you will need some wiggle room to work with.
Apply modge podge to charger and place paper on it smoothing it out as you are adhering it to the charger. Note: You can use the *piece of cardboard or your hand to smooth it out.
When smoothing out the paper start in the center and work your way out. Remember to smooth out the inner crevice of the plate. I could NOT find a way to eliminate all the wrinkles so. However if you have air bubbles you can pop them with a needle and smooth the paper out. . This technique worked on some of the wrinkles. I would wait a couple of minutes and let the paper settle before popping and flattening out the air bubbles or else you risk the chances of tearing your paper.
Once the bottom layer of modge podge dried, I used my exacto knife and cut off the remaining paper. To finish off the plate I applied modge podge on the top of the floral paper and on the rim of the plate to make sure the edges were secured and glued down all the way.
It is not perfect, but she surely is stunning! I am so happy my vision for my fall tablescape came together.
I will do another post on how I put my table setting together and where you can score some finds. In the meanwhile, Please stop by the my co-hosts site to check out there beautiful Fall table setting.
