Happy Friday and thank goodness for the weekend! I am beyond ready for a break. This is Easter weekend and I look forward to spending some down time with my family. We have plans to take the kids out to an Easter egg Brunch...We are a very close knit family, so this will be the first for us. We normally do holidays, like such, on our own and plan it out with just our family. It is funny though because I proposed the idea about going to a community Easter egg gathering to my children and their response, was more-so like, "Why?" Eventually, I was able to talk them into it. My kids are still so little, but they are definitely very much opinionated....about everything!

Anyhow, This month I participated in Fab Furniture Flippin' Contest. Our sponsor this month was Fairfield World. I will not lie, prior to this challenge I had no idea who they were. Fairfield World is a third generation, family-owned, American business that specializes in upholstery and sewing items. They also share DIY tips and tutorials on their site for all you hard core project creators.  The theme for this month was MIX and MATCH. I had the perfect piece for this and I knew exactly what I was going to do prior to even starting this project.

My birthday falls in February and my dear mother was kind enough to gift me my fabric for this challenge. It has been a long goal of mine to reupholster, my ever so beloved vintage sofa. Maker unknown, but I would not be shocked if it is a Vintage Davenport sofa. It has similar lines and shape to some of the older Davenport sofas. I had plans on switching out the fabric and legs for this project. As I started taking the old upholstery off and got down to the guts of this couch I realized that there is no way that I will be able to take the legs off without removing all of the springs....that was not going to happen! So my take on this months theme is more along the lines of mixing old with new and matching it with my home decor...haha!

For this project, I decided to use Fairfield World's, Cushion Wrap. This couch was in desperate need of extra batting to give it more of a "fuller" look. Fairfield World was so generous to send me just the right amount of cushion wrap that I needed. Since I have never worked on an upholstery project this big,  I was able to send them pitch and dimensions and they quickly contacted me to let me know approximately how much cushion wrap I was going to need. I really appreciated that, most companies just go off of what you say, but I felt like they took time to digest what I wanted to achieve.

I plan on breaking down this project on Tuesday, for my "It's So Ugly, It's Cool" post but I will let you know that although I reupholstered the couch on my own with my own two hands, by the time I got to my cushions, I was dealing with sick kids, motherly duties, and I already had broken 4 heavy duty needles on my basic beginner sewing machine. With that being said, I paid a local upholsterer to sew my cushions. There was no way, that I could run multiple layers of this fabric through my machine without me breaking more needles and losing my mind....It just was not happening.

That is it for now. Please stop by this upcoming Tuesday, to get the full scope on how I took this couch from "ugly" to vintage, chic, sexy, and cool. If you want to participate in the Fab Furniture Flippin' Contest please email info@fabfurnitureflippincontest.com
