Hello all! I am so happy to share this post with you! This past month I have had the opportunity to participate in the Fab Furniture Flipping' contest hosted by Evey from Evey's Creation and Stacy from Anastasia Vintage. This contest requires contestants to make over a piece of furniture based off of the month's theme. This month's theme is Inspired by Mom--basically we choose a piece of furniture and flip it using our mother's as inspiration. Not too hard, right? To top off the contest, each month there will be a different sponsor and prize. This month the sponsor is CeCe Caldwell's Paint.

For this contest I chose to makeover a campaign desk that I picked up a couple of months ago via craigslist. It was a bit beat up, but sturdy and like my mom the bones of this desk were strong. Growing up my mother was a realist who believed that in order to get ahead in life, you have to work hard. I remember at a young age my mother working her but off and going to college (while raising five children) so that my siblings and I could have a brighter tomorrow. My mother worked so hard so that my siblings and I would not have to and for that, I am forever grateful. She has taught me to follow my dreams and to persevere no matter what. There may be obstacles that bring us down, but if we get up and try we will and we can overcome whatever is standing in our way.

The sturdiness of this piece reminds me of my mother's strength and determination. This desk is an original vintage Bernhardt desk, it stood the test of time and got dinged in the process. With a little hard work and some paint, the dings were fixed and the desk is stronger than ever...and may I add, a bit more current to our time.

This piece was sanded, primed, painted with Belle Grove Sorbet by Valspar, and finished with polycrylic. The handles were cleaned with Bar Keeper's Friend. You can see in the photo how dirty the handles were....They needed a good scrubbing! I chose to go with Belle Grove Sorbet paint because it is a refreshing color and this is a color that I could see my mother using in her house. It is not wild and crazy, like myself, it is soothing like that of a mom... and it matches anything.

My moms example of hard work is why I blog....I love it. A lot of endless hours go into blogging and a lot of hard work is done in order to get projects done, but I would not change it for a minute. It makes me happy and I am happy that I had a mother to show me the true definition of a hard working woman.

A big thanks to Evey from Evey's Creations and Stacy from Anastasia Vintage for hosting this challenge. If you are interested in participating in the future for the Fab Furniture Flippin' challenge please contact Stacy at info@anastasiavintage.com or Evey at info@eveyscreations.com

Although this photo is old and the quality is poor, I wanted to share this photo with all of you....That young lady sitting there with those five kids is my BEAUTIFUL mother. I love her so much and will always be grateful for all that she has done for me and my siblings...she worked REALLY hard then and she continues to work hard today. I love her to the moon and back...Inspired by mom.

    1. Thanks! YES, a lot of elbow grease was put into those handles. I am so happy I did not go the homemade route with a brass cleaner.
