Spring 2016 One Room Challenge Week 1
April 06, 2016
Oh happy day! It is the first official week of the One Room Challenge hosted by Linda from Calling it Home. The room I will be making over is my family/breakfast room combination (crossing fingers and hoping I will be able to finish both areas during this 6 weeks). I did not want to give away too much, but here are some inspiration photos. It took me approximately 6 weeks to finally decide on the colors I wanted to use in this space. I know...silly me, color does matter in this case. I am so happy to be participating and look forward to seeing what the other designers come up with.
I am a huge fan of Diane Von Furstenberg, she has a great sense of fashion style and an amazing eclectic home decor style. This lady has swag, which I appreciate. I do not see many older folks rocking the "edgy" vibe. Like the photo above, I plan to use white and black in my room, mixed with some Domicile 37 sugared down--edge. The mister has reminded me to not be so radical and to tame it down>>>kids!
Something that I have tried to incorporate in the main living areas of my home is a good mix of modern and traditional furniture. I would really like to incorporate soft edges and a cooler meets dramatic color scheme in this room. We will see....
This is pretty much even-kill of what I can bring to the table in regards to shape of furniture and overall mood. I do not have all my pieces yet, but light, bright, and airy with a mix of POP + EDGE is what I am going for. I need to keep it a little fun, this is the main living area and the room my family spends the most time in. My intentions for this room is for it to complement my already decorated dining room so that everything flows nicely together. The color palette will be a little different but I would love to have the same "chill" vibe.
This is the space I am working with....I know pretty horrendous, right? I have BIG plans for this space and I can only hope that it all comes together. The fireplace is something that I plan to tackle first. I do not have a definite plan on what I am going to be doing there, but I have an idea. I will need to add lighting in the family room and I would love to switch out the lighting in the eating area, but I am not too confident that that will actually happen. I am leaving that up to the mister, since he would be the one to install that if we went forward with that change. I plan to use my newly reupholstered couch in this room (you can check that out here), a diamond pattern rug from Rugs USA, a mix of collected art and prints from Minted, these swivel chairs from Lamps Plus (similar to this style), and please hold your breath...I will be dyeing my curtains with Rit Dye. I know this is a lot to take in, I am just taking it one day at a time hoping that this comes out the way I envision.
Well, that is it for today, until next week...
In case you missed it...Here is my room reveal from Fall 2015 ORC

Looks like a lot of good things to come. I had a giant rock fireplace in one of my houses that I ended up tearing out but I would have considered painting it had it not been so huge. Interested to see how you tackle this one. Looks like busy six weeks, Im right there with you!
ReplyDeleteThat fireplace kills me....I remember the day we viewed this home, everything seemed great until I saw that beast. I literally thought, "why, stone? Why-not brick!"...if I weren't renting I would paint it or tear it down.
DeleteWow, love the inspiration! You can do it! Can't wait to follow along!
ReplyDeleteThanks girl!
