Happy Tuesday! If you are stopping by from Pretty Practical Home, Welcome...I hope y'all are having a great week so far! We have been iced in over here in NC, so I guess you can say all is well. I am happy the kids will be back to normal regular schedule! Yay! I have been teasing you guys on Instagram with some Kate Spade hacks...Well, today marks the first for the Knock it Off DIY series, where myself along with 9 other ladies will be sharing themed DIY knock offs. We plan to knock off everything from designers to our favorite retail stores. This series is to span the entire year with us posting our knock off the 3rd Tuesday of every month. If you would like to participate in our monthly challenge follow all of us on Instagram to know what theme we will be working with and share your finished product via Instagram tagging your photo using the #knockitoffDIY. By doing so, you allow us to share your knock off with our viewers and possibly even share it on our Knock it Off Challenge Post.

To start off the series, we are knocking off the one and only Kate Spade. Each of us, chose a Kate Spade home decor item to knock off. So let's get this party rolling.

This challenge was particularly difficult for me. Not because I could not find anything to match my style, but because I was so stuck on wanting to knock off the Kate Spade Polka Dot desk. I found two on "Craig"--the first one, the sellers did not respond (I called, text, and emailed) and on the second the desk was too small for the space, so both were no bueno. I am the type of person, if I DIY something, it better serve a purpose or be close to what I want. I thought about recreating the Kate Spade jewelry box but I thought it was too simple and I wanted to make my life more stressful, so I knocked off (more inspired by) the Fairfax Rug. I know, I know..."what was I thinking?"---I really do not know...it was kind of spur of the moment, I have the materials, so why not and PLUS....I needed a rug.

I know that this rug, does not seem like much and it does not have that whole Kate Spade lets go BOLD feel to, it does have the imperfection and static-esque vibe that I like. It is not completely white, but then not black...it is in between and reminds me of street wear. To recreate this look, I used a Utility Rug that I have had sitting around for over a year or so, Zinsser primer (it was the only white I had laying around), and a medium size paint brush. LET ME WARN YOU:...My Knock does not look exactly like the original product, but it was surely inspired by Mrs. Spade.

The Steps I took to create my so-called street wear inspired Kate Spade knockoff was:

1. I needed a runner, so I cut my 6'x8' utility rug in half
2. Laid the rug out somewhere where I had adequate space
3. Took my paint brush and paint made white break lines on the rug with the paint going horizontal and vertical
4. When the brush looked liked it needed more paint, I used a stipple technique to make the rug look white washed but I tried to keep the vertical and horizontal lines somewhat distinct so it did not disappear.

Note: Stippling in this sense, is when I patted the paint brush all over my rug until there was no paint left on the brush, then I dipped and redid the lines over again.
