New Year, New Room Refresh: Week 2-Minted Curtains
January 19, 2016
Happy Tuesday! It has been SUPER chilly over here in NC and I am so ready for spring! I think I am allergic to the winter. Haha! From January to March all I want to do is stay in, rock my sweats, and shop online. Haha! I even started looking up online grocery shopping. In other wards, It is way too cold for my liking.
Enough "cold" talk...we are in week 2 of the New Year, New Room Refresh Challenge hosted by Stephanie from Casa Watkins. Last week I shared my vision board with you and I mentioned that some of the items for this room refresh was going to be sponsored. Well, one the sponsors is Minted. Last year I collaborated with them for the ORC and loved it! I also wrote a compilation post of fabric and art that would mix well together. Right before I moved into our new place, I was given the opportunity to use their fabric for a furniture flip challenge. So I knew that when I was given the opportunity to work with them again, I wanted to check out their home decor line. Based off of their fabric alone, I can tell you that their products are quality made and unique. Each curtain print was designed by independent artist...meaning you will not find this in your local retail store.
Since I love Minted so much, I decided to share some of my favorite curtain prints. In fact, a few of these are ones that I was considering for the New Year, New Room Refresh Challenge.
If you look closely at my moodboard, you can see a "Deco" print fabric peeking through. That folks is the fabric I chose for my curtains. I have been eyeing that pattern for a good while and I think it would compliment all that I have going on in the space.
One of the features that attracted me to our new rental were the sloped ceilings. The dining room in our rental which will house the curtains stumped me for awhile because 3 out of 4 of the walls are different heights. It literally threw me for a loop when it came to what pictures to hang, but one thing for sure, I knew that no matter what I was going to stick to the basic curtain hanging rules.
A- Your curtain rod should be hung 2/3 of the way in between the ceiling and the top of the window
B- Extend the rod out 10-12" on each side to allow for maximum light to flow through the window. You can go smaller due to how you plan to style your space. I normally max out at 6" on each side.
C-The curtains should kiss the ground.
These are just basic curtain hanging guidelines. By following these guidelines, it can give the illusion of taller ceilings, allow more natural light through, and it does not break up the wall.
If wanted, you can actually hang your curtains high enough to where it just floats above the floor. I normally apply this technique on my back sliding door so that the curtain does not pick up all the dirt and debris. You can also apply the puddle look to your curtains. The puddle look is very formal and dramatic and needs to be used in the right setting.
Here is another look at my vision for my dining room. At the moment, I have yet to actually put it together, but so far my only project for the space is coming along. Let me note, As much as I love Minted product, if you plan to purchase anything from their home line it may take approximately a month for you to get product since they make the home items based on order.
I am so thrilled to be included in this challenge and I am patiently waiting to see how are spaces become "new" again. Don't forget to stop by some of my best blogging buddies sites to see their progress and what tips they have offer.

Great tips Jess. You can tell which curtains were hung by my husband because they are in the wrong position. Right now, I'm too lazy to fix them, but I will need to be sure to hang them higher. Love the minted curtains! Eagerly waiting for your room reveal next week.
