Happy Friday! I am so excited to share this post with you. I had the opportunity to work Folk Art Home Decor Chalk Paint and Wax and Mod Podge Pearl. Guess what guys...I loved it! I have worked with Mod Podge before and I have dabbled a little with chalk paint, but not to this extent. When I was asked to participate in this campaign, I knew I would be working with Mod Podge, but it was a total shock when I discovered that chalk paint was also in the mystery package. Yes, you read that right....This was a mystery box! The table I chose to makeover, I planned in advance and already had most of the supplies needed for it, the chalk paint and wax were icing on the cake. With the supplies given, I decided to give this table a more monochromatic look, that would work in any space in my home.
The mystery package came with 2 different Folk Art chalk paint colors, wax, and Mod Podge. I decided that for this particular project I was going to try the Mod Podge provided and the darker of the two matte chalk paints that was given (Maui Sand), and the clear wax. I really wanted to add some texture to my side table, so I used some textured scrapbooking paper that I had on hand. This project was one-in-a-half years in the making. I had the table, and paper for almost two years, I just needed to GET IT DONE.
Above, is a before picture of the side table. This table is petite in size with great bones. This is more of a decorative side table and I honestly would just use it for its looks. haha!
The steps I took to accomplish this project are quite simple. First, I painted the piece using Folk Art's Maui Sand matte chalk paint (just the areas that was not going to get covered with scrapbooking paper). The paint dries fairly quick so I was able to apply my textured scrapbook paper shortly after using Mod Podge. When working with past projects, I usually do not pile on the glue, but since this paper was heavy duty, I had to tack on the mod podge in order for the paper to stick. After the scrapbooking paper was applied, I painted the top of the side table (I had to repair it so I had to wait until the repair was finished). Once the table top was painted, I let it sit for 24 hours and then I sealed it with the wax that was provided.
I have already stated how easy it was to use Folk Art's chalk paint, but did you know that with chalk paint you really do not have to prep your piece? All I did was wipe it down and I made sure that there was not any dust or debris on the the table prior to painting. No sanding or priming necessary, how awesome is that? I know sanding and priming are one of those things that I dread doing whenever refinishing furniture and that is probably why I sat on making over this piece.
When using chalk paint and wax you have the option to buff it out to distress it, but I chose to leave it as is.
I chose to adhere the scrapbooking paper with Plaid Mod Podge in a pearl finish, but I did NOT seal it using mod podge. I really like the texture and sheen of textured paper and I did not want to take away from the piece by sealing it with a pearl finish. The textured part of the side table is monochromatic and the bumps on the paper gives off a different sheen against the flat part of the paper. Please note, Plaid's Mod Podge products do come in other finishes, such as Mod Podge Clear Chalkboard and Mod Podge Ultra Matte Chalk.
The possibilities are endless when using Folk Art Chalk Paint and Wax and Plaid Mod Podge. For more projects, visit Plaid's website and their social media accounts:
