Since I basically missed a week worth of blogging prior to the #30dayflip, I decided I would play catch up with what really went down and flipped in my girl's bedroom makeover. On a sidenote...I am watching Drop Dead Diva on Netflix and my gut is on fire, because I just discovered they basically killed off the oh so handsome Grayson played by Jackson Hurst off the show (well, they put his character in someone else's body)....ugh, sad sad sad....boo!

I knew when I took on the challenge that I would be redoing some pieces in the room. I was not for sure on what I was going to do on the the pieces, but I knew something was going to happen. When I created the moodboard for this room, I wanted to set a certain mood with a bohemian eclectic vibe. I looked for inspiration in some of my ABSOLUTE favorite room designs. I chose to go with dark, gloomy-like colors when redecorating this room...primarily because I already painted my girls headboard a dark eggplant purple color and the settee in the room has dark colors. Since I wanted to go with a moody color, I decided to accent the purple with grey.

I love the end result of the bookshelf in the room...I cannot believe I was hesitant to paint it. I could not decide on a color for the shelf because I was indecisive on whether to go dark dark purple (almost black) on the closet doors or go grey. I know no wants to be indecisive when designing a room. I just wanted to be sure of myself, because I hate going back and repainting things. Anyways, I hoard paint (that is my secret) and in my stash I have a few mistints and that is where the bookshelf color came from. One cannot really tell, but the shelf is actually two toned. The case of the shelf is this greyish color with a light purple undertone and the shelves are light purple. I did a paint-stain technique on the shelf where I watered down the paint and wiped it on as if I were staining it and I let the color soak into the wood. I love the natural feel of the wood, so I chose not to lacquer it.

Please excuse the before picture...it was clearly taken with a phone...yes, I am somewhat lazy to bring out the big guns while in the middle of a project so I sometimes use my phone (yikes...).

Over a year ago, I picked up a kids table via curb alert. It was a maple table with a natural finish and missing a leg... I painted it white and did a little detail around the rim, but I never completed it and it laid dormant in my hoard room until now. With that said, I decided to combine the table top with another curb alert, a vintage sewing machine bench to create my kids table. it is kind of hard to tell in the pictures that this is actually a child's table and not a side table due to the lack of chairs....My mother plans on gifting my daughter some kids chairs for her birthday, but I had this crazy cool idea of what I think I might do instead. So we will see.

I really, REALLY, really wanted to paint the table the same color as the bookshelf, but I ran out of that mistint paint, so I decided to paint it the same color as the shelves. I primed, paint, and finished it off with polyacrylic so it can resist the beating it will take by my kids...you know when they slam their toy dishes down on it or spill "tea" on the table top and not wipe it up right away. Yeah, unlike the shelf, I see this table taking a beating, so I sealed it....

Before painting the table, I attached the base of the sewing bench using L-brackets. I could not be happier with my choice of legs...they were free. If you are curious to know how I obtain some of my free finds, check out my post, here. I am telling you, there is nothing better than hitting the jackpot with a free find...

I think that is it for this flip. Happy Monday!
