For this contest I chose to makeover a campaign desk that I picked up a couple of months ago via craigslist. It was a bit beat up, but sturdy and like my mom the bones of this desk were strong. Growing up my mother was a realist who believed that in order to get ahead in life, you have to work hard. I remember at a young age my mother working her but off and going to college (while raising five children) so that my siblings and I could have a brighter tomorrow. My mother worked so hard so that my siblings and I would not have to and for that, I am forever grateful. She has taught me to follow my dreams and to persevere no matter what. There may be obstacles that bring us down, but if we get up and try we will and we can overcome whatever is standing in our way. 

The sturdiness of this piece reminds me of my mother's strength and determination. This desk is an original vintage Bernhardt desk, it stood the test of time and got dinged in the process. With a little hard work and some paint, the dings were fixed and the desk is stronger than ever...and may I add, a bit more current to our time. 

Although this photo is old and the quality is poor, I wanted to share this photo with all of you....That young lady sitting there with those five kids is my BEAUTIFUL mother. I love her so much and will always be grateful for all that she has done for me and my siblings...she worked REALLY hard then and she continues to work hard today. I love her to the moon and back...Inspired by mom.
