Happy Tuesday All!
Sorry for the missed post on Monday, I was having technical difficulties.
I received some questions via instagram about these "circles with faces"...so I know I am due for some explaining. A year or so ago, I did a CRUSHIN' ART post about an artist by the name of Fornasetti. For those who do not know about Fornasetti, He was obsessed with opera singer, Lina Cavalieri, and he created 500+ different variations of her face for his artwork. It is quite astounding, how much of an influence she had on his artwork. Like Fornasetti, I too, have an obsession with Lina Cavalleri's face...so much I wanted them and had to have them plastered (not literally) onto my walls.
I was inspired to create this faux wallpaper by all the many fornasetti wallpaper I have been seeing online. There was one picture in particular that made me jump and do it and it was featured in Rue Magazine. Unfortunately my wallet cannot afford that type of luxury, so I had to create it myself. It is really easy and very inexpensive, especially if you plan to create this to make a statement in your home.
Materials:
Print out of Fornasetti Print - can purchase it, here
Clear contact paper
Scissors
*plate (a little larger than the circles)
Steps:
*Wipe your walls clean and dry with a rag to ensure that the contact paper will stick
1.Cut out Circles
2. Find a round plate a little larger in than the circles, and trace circles on the BACK side of the contact paper (so you do not see the lines).
3. With the backing of the contact paper still intact, cut the traced circles with scissors
4. Once the faces and contact paper is cut, adhere the faces to the contact paper and apply to wall one by one.
*I found it better for me to eye the placement rather than to measure it out. You cannot really see the contact paper unless you are close to it.
Note: I do not think that the contact paper will adhere to textured surfaces well, I am not for sure. If you are not in a rental or you would like to use this technique on furniture you can simply modge podge the faces on to desired area.
See, you really cannot see the contact paper.
I love the look of and feel of my foyer. Adding this faux wallpaper to walls adds interest to a space that was very bland. It is now my favorite place in my house. I love that it literally cost nothing and is easily removable. Love it!
