Last week I hosted a Summer Eclectic Home Tour with my favorite eclectic bloggers and may I say, it was a success. Everyone who participated had such beautiful homes. It was like a dream to me. I know I sound cheesy, but I just love the whole eclectic realm of design. If you do not believe me, check out my pinterest board. LOL! Anyhow, I promised to share my kitchen with you. I have been slowly upgrading it with rental friendly options, that have had an impact on my kitchen.

This is what the space looked like when we moved in. It is funny because all the rooms are pretty spacious and the kitchen is puny in comparison. Recently, my daughter expressed to me that she cannot stand how small our kitchen is. I honesty, do not mind the size. The smaller the kitchen, the easier it is to keep clean, in my opinion. When I moved in, I knew that this kitchen would receive some type of makeover, starting with that hideous blue tile. At that time I did not know exactly what or how I was going to do it until I started researching rental friendly backsplashes. I came across a company called Smart Tiles and I was honestly quite intrigued with their reviews and the ease of the product.

They had a huge inventory of rental friendly tile solutions and colors to choose from. The pattern I originally wanted was the Hexago, but was sold out at the time (I am thinking due to popularity) so I went with a Subway White. I also had planned to place some on the two side walls where the bar is located at under the cabinet, but had a change of heart.

Ever since I beautified (haha) my kitchen with these smart tiles, my kitchen feels brighter, airy, and the cabinets look less dingy. It is almost as if soften the look of the space. The blue made it feel smaller and crowded. Let me not forget that piece of wood and missing tiles, made the kitchen look a bit on the run down side. To install the tile it took me approximately one hour. The directions were extremely simple to follow. Just make sure you wipe down your current backsplash well and do not touch the sticky part of the tile. Not that bad, eh? I did not think so. I used scissors to cut the tile, so no fancy tools needed. There will be more to this kitchen makeover in the coming weeks so stay tune to see how this space comes together.

  1. I'm sold! Or at least I can sell my sister on putting them in her kitchen. It looks so much brighter in your kitchen now--I love the white with the wood cabinets.

  7. I have seen these but not in the subway tiles. I was wondering how real they would look once up on the wall and I have to say they look pretty great. Might be a good idea for our rental.
